Brief Description

ABO Wind contracted Kirby to build the first ever contestable 110kV sub-station in Ireland. The new substation was to be used as the grid connection point for four adjacent windfarms with capacity to expand into the future.

Kirby was the main turnkey contractor which included engineering, procurement, construction and pre-commissioning of all electrical and civils works to ESB and Eirgrid functional specifications including:

  • 110kV overhead line masts
  • 110kV line bays
  • 110kV transformer bays
  • sectionaliser, complete with double busbar
  • 38kV line bays
  • 38kV transformer bays
  • spare 38kV cubicles
  • control and protection panels
  • all associated power and control cabling

This project represents just one of the many sub-station design/build projects completed by Kirby for our utility and renewable clients in Ireland and the UK using our in-house experienced personnel.
