PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Kirby completed the design and build contract of Blanchfield Substation.
Kirby was responsible for the design and construction of Blanchfield 38/20kV substation and the 20kV grid connection of 3 substation windfarms (Ballybay, Foyle and An Cnoc).
Kirby delivered the following services:
• Electrical design, procurement, installation and commissioning of Blanchfield 38kV/20kV substation
• Design, installation and commissioning of the first 31.5 MVA, 38/20kV Power Transformer ever delivered to ESB
• Electrical design, procurement, installation and commissioning of 2 number EGIP systems for ESBN for both Ballybay Wind Farm and Foyle Wind Farm
• Electrical design, procurement, installation and commissioning of 1 number Ring Main Unit with Nulec Recloser system for ESBN for An Cnoc Wind Farm
• Design and construction of Foyle Wind Farm 20kV grid connection (2.5km overhead line and 2.5km ducted underground)
• Design and construction of An Cnoc Wind Farm 20kV grid connection (2.6km overhead line)
SCOPE OF WORK
Kirby scope of works included the Electrical Balance of Plant (EBoP) contract for the connection of three windfarms to the grid.

• 2 number 38/20kV Power Transformers
• 20kV Switchgears
• Control and Protection System
• AC & DC Systems
• Civil works for the entire scope of the project including Trafo Bunds, Plinths and Buildings
