PROJECT DESCRIPTION
ABO Wind appointed Kirby as design and build contractor for a new 110kV contestably built substation; Ireland’s first contestable 110kV AIS transmission substation.
The new substation was built to act as a grid connection point for four adjacent windfarms with capacity to facilitate future expansion needs.
As design and build contractor, Kirby was responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction and pre-commissioning of all electrical and civil works to ESB and EirGrid functional specifications. Kirby also acted as PSCS for the project.

Installed plant items included 1 number 400V distribution board, 1 number 24V distribution board, 1 number 48V distribution board, 15 number control and protection panels, 24V and 48V battery systems, 2 number transformers and 110 and 38kV AIS switchgear.
The total project meterage consisted of 10,000m of cable.
