Jimmy Kirby

Group Managing Director

Jimmy is Group Managing Director with responsibility for the performance of the Company through the formulation and implementation of strategy and continuously building an effective executive management team. Jimmy has been awarded a Master of Business Studies Degree from University College Cork and a Master of Science Degree from Dublin Institute of Technology.

Mark Flanagan

Group Operations Director

Mark has overall responsibility for operational activities across all business units and regions. Working closely with Jimmy as Group Managing Director, Mark is centrally involved in the direction of company operations to achieve client satisfaction and overall team performance. He has previously held positions in project and contracts management within the Group.

Derry McMahon

Group Finance Director and Company Secretary

Derry is responsible for the company’s financial management through ensuring adequate systems, controls and risk management procedures are in place. He also has responsibility for support services relating to human resources, administration and information technology. Derry is a qualified accountant and has been awarded a diploma in Strategic HR from U.C.C. He has held his current position since 2010, having previously been Group Financial Controller.

Ray Ryan

Group QEHS Director

Ray is the Group QEHS Director with Board level responsibility for all EHS and Quality activities across the company. Working closely with the other directors, in-house departments and QEHS professionals within Kirby, he is centrally involved in directing the company to achieving world-class QEHS practices. Ray has been with Kirby since 1994 and has previously held positions in Contract Management and Operations within the Group.Prior to this, he spent 10 years in the United States as a Senior Project Engineer on multi-million dollar projects in the Municipal and Industrial sectors.

Conor O’Brien

Group Commercial Director

Conor is responsible for the development and implementation of Group Commercial Strategy. Aligned to the overall Company, he endeavours to execute commercial undertakings in a processed and controlled manner, through the Functional Teams, to support Operations which includes but not limited to Customer, Contract, Risk, Cost and Change Control Management. Conor has been awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Construction Law and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Quantity Surveying.

Aidan J Kerins

Group Business Development Director

Aidan has overall responsibility for business development activities and driving sales across Ireland, UK and Mainland Europe. Working closely with the Group Managing Director, he is heavily involved in developing company’s strategic direction and ensuring business development team’s full alignment. Aidan has been awarded an MBA from the University of Edinburgh as well as having a BEng in Mechanical Engineering and BSc in Industrial Engineering.

Henry McCann

Operations Director

Henry is Operations Director and leads our Leinster and Connacht Business Unit. Henry ensures that we create and deliver value for our clients through listening to their needs and partnering with them throughout the process. He focuses on the delivery of operational excellence through the deployment of high performance teams. Henry ensures that our priorities in Operations are safety, quality and on time project delivery within budget. He has extensive engineering and project management experience across different sectors including Life Sciences, Data Centres and Industrial Manufacturing.

Dave McNamara

Operations Director - Munster and Europe

Dave is responsible for operations in the Munster region in Ireland and mainland Europe. He plays a lead role in the company’s expansion into new geographical areas and has successfully delivered projects across Europe. Dave takes a key role in project development, coordination and communication and applies his extensive engineering and project management expertise which he acquired through his work on projects across many sectors including Data Centres, Life Sciences and Industrial Manufacturing. He oversees operations, planning, installation, quality, safety, handover and cost control. Dave played an integral role in the development of the new Level 7 Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial Electrical Engineering programme at the Limerick Institute of Technology.

Fergus Frawley


Fergus is responsible for chairing the Board and ensuring that the company’s strategic policies and direction are aligned with that of the shareholders, mentoring members of the management team, and acting as a representative for the company in external industry and corporate relationships. Prior to his appointment as Chairman, Fergus held the position of Group Managing Director from 2006 to 2016. He is a past President of the Electrical Contractors Association.

John is an Associate Director responsible for the overall engineering function within the business, ensuring that the project milestones are achieved and client expectations are met. He has extensive experience in the construction industry and has worked across different sectors including Medical Technology, Life Sciences and Data Centres. John has been awarded a BEng in Mechanical Engineering.

Fergus Barry

Associate Director – Group Head of Human Resources

Fergus is an Associate Director and Group Head of Human Resources. Fergus ensures that Kirby has the talent, coordination mechanisms, competence and engagement levels to effectively execute company strategy. Fergus has over 20 years’ experience as a thought and practice leader in Strategic Human Resource Management. He has held the roles of Director IMI, Head of the School of Business and Humanities at the National College of Ireland and Teaching Fellow, Trinity College Dublin. Fergus has also been lead consultant in delivering major strategic change and organisational design, engagement and executive development for many leading national and international organisations.

Donal Lynch

Associate Director – Finance & Corporate Services

Donal is an Associate Director responsible for company’s financial reporting and corporate services. He works closely with the Group Finance Director to ensure that adequate systems, controls and risk management practices are implemented throughout the company. Donal has been awarded a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and Higher Diploma in Computer Science from UCC and a Diploma in Management from the Irish Management Institute.

Alan McHugh

Associate Director – Power Transmission & Distribution

Alan is an Associate Director with overall responsibility for our Power Transmission and Distribution Business Unit. A highly experienced power industry leader, Alan works closely with new and existing customers to deliver quality, high-value services. He is centrally involved in the running of all aspects of the Business Unit, from concept consulting expertise to engineering, construction and handover. Alan has been awarded an Electrical Engineering degree from UCD, Diplomas in Business Finance and Project Management and Certificates in Irish Government and Politics as well as Supervisory Management.

Sean Rapple

Associate Director – Group Head Pre-Construction

Sean is an Associate Director responsible for Pre-Construction activities within the group. Sean is responsible for the management of the estimation team to produce cost plans, generation of non-commercial requirements through bid stage, post-tender liaison meetings with clients and managing stakeholders. Sean has extensive experience in the M&E sector. Prior to the appointment he previously worked in a number of senior roles within the industry. Sean holds a PG Dip in Project Management and PG Dip in Leadership.

Mikey Ryan

Associate Director – Operations Connacht

Mikey is an Associate Director with responsibility for operations in the Connacht region. He plays a lead role in the successful delivery of projects and has been centrally involved in key projects in the region particularly in the Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences sectors. He has extensive engineering and project management experience across different sectors including Life Sciences, Industrial Manufacturing and Data Centres. He applies this knowledge and expertise to assigned projects to ensure operational excellence, client expectations are met and all project milestones are achieved.

Hugh Nealon

Associate Director – Operations Munster and Europe

Hugh is an Associate Director with responsibility for operations in the Munster region in Ireland and Mainland Europe. He plays a key role in the successful delivery of projects across his assigned regions. He oversees projects from planning right through to handover and applies his extensive engineering and project management expertise to ensure projects are delivered safely, to the highest standard, on schedule and within budget. Hugh has over 20 years’ experience in delivering projects across different sectors including Data Centres, Life Sciences, Chemical, Semi-Conductor, Power Generation and Industrial Manufacturing.

  • ISO 9001:2015: Kirby were one of the first construction-related companies to receive ISO 9001 accreditation. Today we hold ISO 9001:2015 accreditation across all services and geographic regions, including electrical, mechanical, power, calibrations and communications.
  • Beyond ISO 9001: Kirby has developed its quality management procedures beyond ISO 9001 to conform to work in GMP and FDA-regulated environments.
  • Q-Mark Standard: Kirby have achieved the internationally-recognised Q-Mark Quality Management System Certification – a business excellence framework which demonstrates our commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement at all levels of our business.
  • Achilles UVDB Verify: In 2008, Kirby secured Achilles UVDB registration.
    Kirby also hold Achilles RISQS, Achilles Sellihca (Nordic Utilities), Achilles Power & Tech Community and Achilles Supply Line certification for supply-chain procurement.
  • Lloyd’s Register: Kirby has been accepted onto the Lloyds National Electricity Registration Scheme in the UK as a Utility Connection Provider for contestable works up to 132kV
    SEK, Elsäkerhetsverket: Kirby has been accepted onto the Swedish National Electricity Registration Scheme as a certified Electrical Company for works up to 1kV.
    ATEX Certification: Kirby have +20Nr. CompEx certified Atex Inspectors in-house, whom can perform Atex Inspections to the current Atex Directive 2014/34/EU.

Innovation and Lean

Kirby culture is driven by innovation, efficiency, waste elimination and meeting our customers’ needs at minimum cost each and every time. Lean practices and processes have become critical components of our project delivery, which bring significant value to us and our customers.

At Kirby, we operate an Innovation Suggestion Scheme, where participation is encouraged among all of our workforce. This approach allows us to continuously generate innovative / lean ideas from our site and office employees. The suggestions are focused around introducing efficiencies into the business by continuously improving the site conditions and the quality of our services. This system allows us to continuously add value and generate savings on our clients’ projects.
