  • December 19, 2017

Kirby has donated €13,500 (£12,000) to UNICEF as part of its annual Christmas charity donation. The donation will support UNICEF in its work to promote the rights and wellbeing of all children across the globe. It will also support UNICEF’s Syria Winter Response Appeal which aims to help vulnerable children to stay warm and safe this winter.

Jimmy Kirby, Kirby Group Managing Director, presented the donation to UNICEF ambassador and Galway hurling star, Joe Canning and UNICEF Head of Corporate Partnerships, David Muldoon.  Speaking at the presentation, Jimmy Kirby said: “We are proud to support UNICEF; a charity which works to improve the lives of children across the globe.”

Joe Canning, UNICEF ambassador said: “During my recent trip to Aleppo in Syria in my role as UNICEF ambassador, I witnessed first-hand the plight and suffering of the Syrian children who have been living in conflict for over six years.  The generosity of Kirby’s donation will make a significant difference to the lives of these children and other vulnerable children around the world”.

The donation to UNICEF is one of two charity donations which Kirby will make this Christmas.  The company is also donating €13,500 to Focus Ireland bringing its Christmas charitable donations to €27,000.

Since its foundation in 1964, Kirby has embraced the spirit of enterprise in a socially responsible manner.  Each year, Kirby supports a significant number of charities and community initiatives.  Last month, Kirby was presented with a CSR: Best Contribution to the Community Award in recognition of its significant positive impact on the community socially, economically, environmentally and culturally.
