Kirby marks 8th year of supporting BITCI
June 1, 2017
2017 sees Kirby mark its 8th year of supporting the Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI) Business Action on Education programme.
Kirby has been involved in BITCI’s Schools’ Business Partnership programme for eight years and seeing the positive impact of its involvement in the programme, it extended its support for the action on education initiative to include Time to Read earlier this year.
Time to Read is a reading enhancement initiative which provides 2nd class (7 to 9 year old) children with an opportunity to receive reading support from a business volunteer. 10 of Kirby’s employees volunteered to take part in the reading programme and support the second class students at Our Lady Queen of Peace National School in Limerick. Kirby also sponsored the purchase of new books for the school in conjunction with BITCI. The Time to Read programme came to a successful conclusion last month with both pupils and volunteers benefitting from the programme.
Last year, Kirby developed its participation in the Schools’ Business Partnership programme to include schools in Galway and Dublin. Kirby has been involved in the programme in the Limerick region for over 8 years where it has worked with and supported the students and teachers at Coláiste Chiaráin in Croom. Following the positive impact of the programme at Coláiste Chiaráin, Kirby expanded its involvement in the programme to include St Mark’s Community College in Tallaght, Dublin and Galway Community College.
Having a positive impact on its communities is very important at Kirby with the company supporting a significant number of charities and community initiatives each year.
