Brief Description
Kirby has a deep and long standing relationship with Abbott and Abbvie, having undertaken the majority of mechanical and electrical/instrumentation works on their behalf throughout their facility network.
In addition to normal MEP based work-scopes, we also deliver cleanroom builds on a turnkey basis where we assume overall responsibility for the entire project work-scope. An example of such work is the cleanrooms in Abbvie’s facility in Sligo, Ireland which have been retrofitted to accommodate ISO7 cleanrooms.
As principal contractor to Abbvie for this work, Kirby delivered not only associated MEP scope but all related CSA and cleanroom envelopes. The CSA element of work included all demolition works, erection of steel frames to accommodate the walk-on ceiling structure, all underground drainage/flooring and fire partitions. We directly managed the cleanroom specialist in the building out of 2,000sq.m of cleanrooms per phase and oversaw all coordination, planning and commissioning of works.
Understanding Client Needs
The cleanrooms themselves have 4.5m high ceilings to accommodate large crane rails for material handling purposes. HVAC services within the area is Class C galvanised, apart from the extract systems which are stainless steel. As part of our service to Abbvie, we procured and expedited equipment such as AHUs, chillers, HEPA filters, main electrical boards, LED lighting, extract fans etc.
Maintaining Business Continuity
As the work occurred within existing production areas, Kirby worked very closely with Abbvie to minimise construction impact and maintain operational continuity. Abbvie take comfort in the knowledge that Kirby understand their business needs, and as overall turnkey provider, assume responsibility for all aspects of the project leaving Abbvie to concentrate on their core business of production.
