PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Kirby was appointed as the main mechanical and electrical contractor on ACI Worldwide’s new state-of-the-art 2MW Tier 3 N+1 data centre facility in Limerick. The project involved the conversion of an existing warehouse into a single storey data centre and an offce, with a large mechanical and electrical plant service yard and a rooftop area.

The new 5,500m² facility accommodated a data hall, a number of LV/MV electrical rooms and telecommunication rooms. To ensure resilient, efficient and reliable infrastructure, two 2MW transformers and a 2MW standby generator were installed as well as two free issue 400V 3200A UPS power systems.

The project had a very challenging time schedule as well as space restrictions. To overcome these and to ensure the project timeline was met, Kirby utilised its BIM expertise, which allowed us to coordinate the services and ensure high quality installations as well as identify and resolve any critical design issues at an early stage, which, in turn, minimised any
rework or delays on site.

Through early engagement, effective use of BIM and an efficient construction schedule, the data centre was successfully completed within budget and to the client’s full satisfaction in just under 5 months.
