Brief Description
Analog Devices International required a new R&D building consisting of a two-storey structure with open-plan offices, laboratories, managerial offices, meeting rooms and staff canteen. As a brownfield development, the project was also required to achieve LEED Gold standard accreditation
Kirby was contracted to complete the following scope of works:
- MV and LV switchgear and main/sub-mains cabling and containment
- UPS system installation
- Lighting and general services
- Specialist systems such as security, fire alarm, gas detection, lightning protection, earthing, access and BMS
- HVAC controls and power distribution installation
- Instrumentation cabling and cableways installation
- Category 5E and 6A twisted pair IT cabling installation
- Fibre optic cable, telephone and cableway installation
Understanding Client Needs – LEED Gold
Kirby helped Analog achieve a LEED Gold status for the building by using a fully-automated lighting system, metered through a sub-distribution panel arrangement.
Overcoming Challenges
The original design for the open plan office areas used floor boxes with desks arranged at 90 degree angles to each other. During the project, the desk layout changed to being at 45 degrees to each other, meaning the floor box solution could be problematic.
To solve this problem, Kirby utilised the Home Run System – a fully plug-and-play system which simplified wiring requirements. This was a cleaner solution which gave Analog the flexibility to change desk positions as required.
