PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Kirby was responsible for the electrical installation and commissioning of Birkenhead 132kV Asset Replacement project.
Kirby made a significant contribution to the replacement of the existing Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) Substation with a new indoor Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Substation and transferal of all existing 132kV circuits and commission to the new GIS.
This included the installation of the C&P panels, battery systems, LVAC board within the control room and the interconnection cable between the GIS equipment and SGT panels.
The project successfully energised 3 nr. Supergrid Transformer bays and 7 nr. 33kV local remote end substations.
SCOPE OF WORK
Kirby was responsible for the electrical scope of works.
The electrical systems installed by Kirby included:
- Primary Equipment Transmission Connection
- Earthing & Bonding
- Control & Protection System
- Fibre Network
- OHL (Design & Build)
- DC Battery Systems (Design & Build)
- SCADA
Installed plant items include 3 nr. distribution boards, 25 nr. control & protection panels and 2 nr. battery system.
The total project meterage consisted of 20,000m of cable.
