PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Kirby were awarded the Balance of Plant works associated with the Currie Substation. The substation was deemed as requiring asset replacement in both the 275kV and 132kV substations.
The 275kV Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) substation was replaced with a 275kV AIS mesh type substation. The 132kV AIS substation was replaced with a 132kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) double busbar substation within a new purpose built control building. A new Super Grid Transformer 3 (SGT3) was installed with an associated air cored shunt reactor R3 connected to the tertiary winding.
The 275kV /132kV Switchgear, transformer and shunt reactor works ran concurrently.

Kirby scope of works included the electrical installation, commissioning and civils/ building works.
