PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Kirby were appointed by ABB to build the AC/DC convertor station to support the 500MW HVDC Interconnector project between Ireland and the UK. We were responsible for the construction and pre-commissioning of Portan 400kV AIS substation to EirGrid functional specifications, as well as installation of 400/260kV 560MVA transformers, 400kV and 260kV switchgear and filters, 260kV reactor and construction of AC/DC valve hall (including cooler system).

• Access Control, Intruder & CCTV
• Lightning Protection

Installed plant items included 4 number transformers, switchgear systems, AC/DC distribution boards, 25 number control and protection panels, battery systems.

The total project meterage consisted of 15,000m of cable and 6 number of terminations.
