Third annual Kirby Way Charity Cycle takes place in Portlaoise

Our third annual Kirby Way Cycle has been another huge success. It was fantastic to see Kirby staff, partners, suppliers, friends and family come together once again in the name of camaraderie and enjoyment.

This year’s Kirby Way Cycle kicked off on August 30th, starting and finishing in Portlaoise, right in the heart of the country, and at the site of our newest facility at the J17 National Enterprise Park. Participants had a choice of a 50km or 100km route to raise vital funds to support two worthy charities; Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation and St. John’s Ward at Children’s Health Ireland, Crumlin. Thanks to everyone who has donated so far, there’s already been a huge amount raised and the fundraising page is still open at https://www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/KirbyWayCycle2024

We’d like to express our gratitude to all those who made the Kirby Way Cycle 2024 such a successful event. Kirby Operations Director Mikey Ryan heads up the committee for the Kirby Way Cycle: “An extraordinary level of planning goes into the cycle every year, from deciding on the routes, liaising with emergency services to ensure everyone is kept as safe as possible, working with our chosen charities and of course, helping participants prepare for the challenge ahead! I’d like to express a huge thanks to all those who work with us to make this happen.”

Kirby CEO Mark Flanagan said: “The success of the event reflects Kirby’s commitment to team building and its unwavering support of communities and local charities who strive to make a difference in society. The Kirby Way Cycle is a true reflection of how this company values and prioritises people.”

About our Chosen Charities

Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation supports children with cognitive delays up to the age of 6 years old. The charity provides in-home nursing to provide the proper care that these children need, and support the parents need, to take care of their children in their own homes.

Deirdre Walsh, CEO at The Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation, said “A sincere thank you to Kirby for the huge effort in taking on this impressive cycling challenge.  All your training, hard work and kindness has helped raise vital funds which translate into home nursing care hours for local families, supported by Jack and Jill nurses today.  With over 400 families currently under our care, the funds raised from this event will provide many hours of in-home care and respite support. So, from our community to yours, thank you.

Children’s Health Foundation are committed to supporting patients and their families who attend Children’s Health Ireland hospitals and urgent care centres . The fundraising from The Kirby Way Cycle will be donated directly to St. John’s Cancer Ward in Childrens Health Ireland at Crumlin. St. John’s ward is a 19-bed unit that provides treatment to children and young people up to the age of 16 who have been diagnosed with cancer and/or blood disorders.

Nessa O’Reilly, Head of Strategic Giving in Children’s Health Foundation said “We are immensely grateful to Kirby Group Engineering for their dedication to making a meaningful difference in the lives of sick children through their Kirby Way Cycle 2024. The funds raised are vital in helping Children’s Health Foundation fulfil its mission of making sure that every sick child has every chance. All proceeds will directly benefit children with blood disorders and/or cancers in St. John’s Ward at Children’s Health Ireland, Crumlin. This generous support will have a lasting impact on these children and their families, offering hope and comfort during challenging times.”
