HV/MV Services

Kirby is a market leader in Power Transmission and Distribution (T&D) providing HV/MV design & build solutions, of both, AIS & GIS systems, up to 400kV to DNOs, TSOs, the renewables sector and large industry facilities requiring high capacity power. Our services are delivered by an experienced in-house team of professional engineers, construction and commissioning teams, including internal SAPs approved to operate HV/MV systems. Kirby has developed its own approach to project delivery.

Our scope of work focuses on electrical and civil Balance of Plant contracts. We have well-developed expertise and in-depth experience in the design & build of new contestable and non-contestable substations, as well as the refurbishment of existing substation in live environments. Kirby has successfully delivered contestable HV/MV substation projects for ESB Networks, Eirgrid, Scottish Power, large industry facilities and Wind Developers, connecting over 2 GW of renewable energy to the grid in the UK and Ireland.

We are fully accredited with Lloyds NERS, Achilles UVDB and Achilles Sellicha; we are representatives of various country-specific Wind Energy Associations and regularly contribute to industry discussion papers as a leading T&D focused contractor.

What We Do

Kirby have been an excellent addition to our contractor base. From very early on in our relationship we received the acknowledgement, support, guidance and commitment from the senior management and directors within Kirby.

Kirby have established a considerable team of highly trained staff, and at their own expense, had these staff trained at the appropriate SPEN authorisations to permit and ensure safe and competent working on our network.

Kirby have and continue to deliver works on time and where possible on budget. At times, like all our contractors, Kirby have had to delay, reschedule and postpone works due to our network issues and (we) always found them to be very professional in their support and acknowledgement of these changes.
